Sports Campus Ireland is a planned sports facility planned to be built at Abbotstown, County Dublin, Ireland. Phase One of the project was approved in principle in November 2005 by the Government of Ireland. Phase One would provide a training centre catering for rugby, soccer, Gaelic games and hockey including accommodation for athletes and medical facilities. An outdoor running track was also planned as well as an all-weather synthetic pitches for use by the Abbotstown community are also included. Estimated cost was €119 million in 2004.[1]
The project was granted planning permission in July 2009 by Fingal County Council. However on same day An Bord Snip Nua recommended that it be scrapped. Work on building the facility has not yet begun. Nor has there been a definite decision whether it should be scrapped been taken.[2]
